This blog is about discovery, awareness and unification.  My hope with this blog is to share my journey as a woman and in the process, empower other women to raise their voices as well, knowing they are not alone.  I believe that together, we can build up each other and become a powerful force to transform our world.

My name is Desiree’ York and I have a passion for writing, directing and social change.  After over 10 years in the work force in Pennsylvania as an administrator for non-profit organizations, I traveled across the country and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in writing and a minor in Women’s Studies from California State University Fullerton.  My goals are to direct in the theatre, write plays, screenplays, articles and books for social change as well as become involved in active social organizations.  Please contact me if you are interested in hiring me as a director, writer, co-writer, helping with a project or just want to share your story:  desireeyork77@gmail.com

Recently, I read an excerpt from a book which answered so many questions about my life.  In “The Gender Knot:  Unraveling Our Patriarchal Legacy,” Allan Johnson states that:

To identify “female” as an oppressed status under patriarchy doesn’t mean that every woman suffers its consequences to an equal degree, just as living in a racist society doesn’t mean that every person of color suffers equally or that every white person shares equally in the benefits of race privilege.  Living in patriarchy does mean, however, that every woman must come to grips with an inferior gender position and that whatever she achieves will be in spite of that position.

This opened my eyes and gave me a better understanding of myself, place in society and need for change.  This blog is a search for truth in my life and in the world – the truth that women are equal.  In this journey I hope you take with me, I want to discover how we can empower one another to fully embrace the truth of our equality.  Once we have embraced the truth as individuals, to then unite and bring this truth to the rest of the world – transforming society until we are recognized as equals.
